Sunday February 17, 2019 12th day of the 12ht month Adar 1 5779
Exodus 31:12-13 And the LORD said to Moses, 13 “You are to speak to the people of Israel and say, ‘Above all you shall keep my Sabbaths, for this is a sign between me and you throughout your generations, that you may know that I, the LORD, sanctify you.
A lot of times I don’t write a commentary for my verse of the day, even though I read, but Sunday a lot of times is family day and there just isn’t time to write, but today, I really felt like I need to write on this, for I talked about this with a couple of guys at Beth Simcha and it is important. This is important for all of us, and really important for those of us who have chosen to follow of God’s commands, all of God’s teachings, all of God’s Torah, (which means teachings).
We read a few times in the scriptures, Remember the Shabbat, keep it holy, but here notice the words I highlighted; above all. Yes, above all you shall keep my Shabbats.
Today I want to focus on the words above all. We read a lot of commands given by God in the scriptures, but this is the only one that I found that had the above all, and this is the esv. In the King James, it is verily and again, just along with a couple.
The Hebrew word is ak, surely and in the affirmative it is an emphasis. It believe it is emphasized for God wanted us to see how important is holy days are, his moedim, His appointed times and the weekly Shabbat is one of them.
How seriously do we take this command? Some do, some don’t. Again, my focus on this verse of the day are the words, above all. All of God’s word is important and applies to us today, but here we see, above all.
Pray and think about this my brothers and sisters.
