Chukim (“Statutes”)
Even the statutes that one cannot explain rationally, the chukim (for instance, the decree concerning the red heifer), have a lofty source; in them the will of God reveals itself, which is higher than all reason. Therefore, it is said in Psalm 119:54, “Your statutes [chukechah] are my songs”; for just as one can intone a beautiful song a hundred times, so is every commandment of God beloved and precious to the pious.
